Blackwing Needlefiber Deck Link Format February 2018

Since their debut around 2009 in TCG, Blackwing become famous among duelist. Easy combo and strong board become main strength of this archetype. A Blackwing Deck proceeded to win the 2009 World Championships and remained popular the following year, and then two important cards, Gale and Kalut, got hit by Ban List. Around 2015, Blackwing get more support, making this archetype more swarm-able and faster. But many people doubt Blackwing right after the field change during Link era. But, that's not true, with help of Crystron Needlefiber, Blackwing will give terror to anyone against them. About Blackwing Archetype

Blackwing is an archetype of Dark Winged-Beast monster, except tuner monster Blackwing - Aurora the Northern Light (Light Attribute) and synchro monster Blackwing Tamer - Obsidian Hawk Joe (Warrior Type). Used in anime Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's by Robert Pearson an then Pearson give his Blackwing deck along with his Duel Disk to Crow Hogan. Later, Blackwing makes their second appearance in Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V used by Crow's alternate universe counterpart.

Blackwing deck known for their swarming and speed capabilities. Many monster has ability to special summon them-self if there is Blackwing monster on the field. At first time released, Blackwing don't have much Syncrho to choose. But with the release of Assault Blackwing, there are so much ways to play Blackwing. Synchro monster from Assault Backwing have ability to treated as Tuner if summoned with at least one Blackwing material, giving access to higher level Synchro even the Quasar family.

Blackwing Needlefiber Play-style

The main strategy is to use Blackwing ability to swarm the field with at least one tuner. Then go for Crystron Needlefiber and just Synchro the rest to most possible strong monster. Destroying cards with Raikiri or go for Chidori to focus on attack. Even summon the mighty Onimura and Crytal Wing. You can see my video about Blackwing Needlefiber here.

Combo #1

Cards needed : Blackwing - Harmattan the Dust, Blackwing - Bora the Spear (or Blackwing - Kris the Crack of Dawn), Blackwing - Steam the Cloak, Blackwing - Blizzard the Far North

1. Normal summon Blackwing - Steam the Cloak, then special summon Blackwing - Harmattan the Dust and Blackwing - Bora the Spear
2. By using Harmattan's effect, increase his level by 3 by targeting Steam, so Harmattan level will become 5
3. Use Steam and Bora to link summon Crystron Needlefiber, and Steam Token will be special summoned due to Steam effect
4. By using Needlefiber's effect, special summon Blackwing - Oroshi the Squall from deck
5. Use Oroshi and level 5 Harmattan to synchro summon Blackwing - Nothung the Starlight
6. Use Nothung bonus normal summon to summon Blackwing - Blizzard the Far North then use his effect to special summon Bora
7. Tribute Steam Token to special summon Steam from graveyard

3. Since Chidori is treated as tuner, use him and Steam Token to link summon Crystron Needlefiber
4. By using Needlefiber effect, special summon Glow-Up Bulb from deck
5. Tribute Glow-Up Bulb to special summon Steam from graveyard

2. Normal summon Blackwing - Kalut the Moon Shadow then use Black Whirlwind effect to add Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind from deck to your hand
3. Special summon Gale and Blackwing - Bora the Spear
4. Use Kalut and Gale to synchro summon Blackwing - Nothung the Starlight
5. Use Nothung bonus normal summon to summon Blackwing - Blizzard the Far North then use his effect to special summon Gale from graveyard

Tips #1

Blackwing - Gladius the Midnight Sun is an unique Blackwing among the others, always remember that Gladius must be special summoned first than any other Blackwing. If you read carefully, Gladius can only special summoned if you control one Blackwing only. If you control more than one monster, as long you only control one Blackwing, you can still special summon Gladius.

Tips #2

You can abuse Assault Blackwing - Raikiri the Rain Shower effect. Raikiri effect says "once per turn", which mean if you send him to graveyard (or anywhere outside the field) them revive him, you can use Raikiri effect once more.

Tips #3

If you have Assault Blackwing - Raikiri the Rain Shower (or Assault Blackwing - Chidori the Rain Sprinkling) and Blackwing - Gladius the Midnight Sun (or Blackwing - Kalut the Moon Shadow in graveyard, you can get easy Assault Blackwing - Onimura the Thunder Divine with only Blackwing - Blizzard the Far North. Normal summon Blizzard to special summon Gladius from graveyard the go for Assault Blackwing - Sohaya the Rain Storm. Sohaya's effect will special summon Raikiri from graveyard, the use both monster to syncrho summon level 12 Assault Blackwing - Onimura the Thunder Divine.

Tips #4

Always remember that these three cards : Blackwing - Oroshi the Squall, Blackwing - Harmattan the Dust, and Blackwing - Kris the Crack of Dawn, can only special summoned once per turn by their own effect.

Blackwing Needlefiber Deck Key Cards

Key Card #1 Blackwing - Steam the Cloak

Although this card don't have ability to special summon himself from hand, but this card give you free token if sent to graveyard. And you can get this effect as much as you want. Has ability to revive himself from graveyard (once per duel), also accessible via Crystron Needlefiber effect.

Key Card #2 Blackwing - Harmattan the Dust

Has ability to special summoned himself from hand. And he can increase his level by targeting another Blackwing, which means you can have easier access to synchro monster you need, even Assault Blackwing - Onimura the Thunder Divine.

Key Card #3 Crystron Needlefiber

Always good with tuner based deck. giving more space for your synchro monster and give bonus tuner at your choice.

Blackwing Weakness

All spammer deck has same weakness, Anti Special Summon and Anti Meta. Statue cards and Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo will make this deck useless. Because of overwhelming speed, you can find your hand depleted quickly, so a tiny misplay can makes you dug your own grave, be careful. Cards with massive cleaning board effect can be major problem for Blackwing. So cards like Dark Hole, Raigeki, Torrential Tribute, or Evenly Match will frustrate Blackwing user.

Another Card Recommendation

If you play in real life or if you don't want to use Crystron Needlefiber, you can add some Level 8 Synchro monster like Stardust Dragon, Scrap Dragon, Beelze of the Diabolic Dragon, Crimson Blader, Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend, or even more PSY-Framelord Omega. If you play without Crystron Needlefiber, you can use these combo instead :

1. Normal summon Blackwing - Steam the Cloak, then special summon Blackwing - Harmattan the Dust and Blackwing - Bora the Spear
2. By using Harmattan's effect, increase his level by 3 by targeting Steam, so Harmattan level will become 5
3. Use Steam and Harmattan to synchro summon PSY-Framelord Omega, and Steam Token will be special summoned due to Steam effect
4. Use Omega's effect to banish himself and one random card from opponent hand
5. Tribute Steam Token to special summon Steam from graveyard
6. Use Bora and Steam to synchro summon Assault Blackwing - Chidori the Rain Sprinkling (or Assault Blackwing - Raikiri the Rain Shower, your choice), then Steam Token will special summoned due to Steam effect

5. Use Nothung bonus normal summon to summon Blackwing - Blizzard the Far North then use his effect to special summon from Gale graveyard
6. Then use Black Whirlwind effect to add Blackwing - Harmattan the Dust from deck to your hand
7. Special summon Harmattan then use the effect to increase his level by 2 by targeting Blizzard, so Harmattan level become 4
8. Use Blizzard and Nothung to link summon PSY-Framelord Omega
9. Use Omega's effect to banish himself and one random card from opponent hand

You can also add another level 7 Synchro monsters like Blackwing - Armor Master or Blackrose Moonlight Dragon. If you prefer Level 8 Synchro  than Level 6 Synchro you can replace Formula Synchro with Crystron Quandax. They have similar effect, but Quandax has higher level and don't give you extra card. And you can go for higher level synchro instead.

Just like we see in deck profile, this deck is lack of card that can get rid of enemy back-row, so cards like Twin Twister or Delta Crow - Anti Reverse is a good addition for this deck, since you can easily summon three Blackwing. Another good Blackwing card is Blackwing - Vayu the Emblem of Honor. Even though you can't use Vayu for synchro summon on the field, you can still go for Needlefiber, than you can use Vayu's effect to special summon a Synchro Monster, but note that this summon isn't treated as Synchro Summon. With Vayu's help, you can do fewer cards combo to go for higher level Synchro, such us Crystal Wing or even Onimura.

If you plan to go for higher Link Monster, Saryuja Skull Dread is a really good choice because summoning four or three (including Needlefiber) is not a problem for Blackwing. Skull Dread will makes your monster stronger, give you extra special summon, and even give you extra cards in your hand. And the best part is the link marker, three arrow pointed down means you can spam more synchro. And last, for recovery you can also use Dark Eruption instead of Against the Wind, this card would be perfect if you don't have plan to recover Bora or Kris from graveyard.
