Flip is Back! Krawler Deck November 2017

After so many changes in Yu-Gi-Oh mechanics, not so many people play any flip effect monster anymore, because they're not really fast and powerful. You need to wait until your monster get attacked to activate their effects, or you need to wait until your next turn to flip summon them. Yes, nobody get time for that, because so many destructive cards effect this day.

But with Krawler, it will be a different story. Krawler has ability to recycle them self, kill one and there will be two more. Also, they has support trap card that can flip your monster even your opponent didn't attack. With so many variable effect, Krawler will depleting enemy resources and then kill them with weak but sure attack.

About Krawler Archetype

Krawler are all Earth Insect type monster with level 2. All of them has their own unique flip effect, from destroying cards, special summon their friend, sending card from deck to graveyard, and many more. All of Krawler monsters have same 2nd effect, if they destroyed by opponents card effect when they face-up, you can special summon 2 other Krawler monster with different name from your deck. That's very interesting, because even if your Krawler destroyed by effect-negate cards like Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon or Cyber Dragon Infinity, you can still special summon 2 more Krawler monsters.

The X-Krawlers

This archetype also has unique link monster : the X-Krawler. All of them are Link Scale 2 and has their own unique effect. And all X-Krawler has same 2nd effect, whenever they removed from field, you can special summon 2 Krawler monsters in face-down Defense Position. This mean you can get this effect if X-Krawler is destroyed by battle, destroyed by card effect, banished, send to graveyard, or even returned to hand/deck. Of course your opponents must do the work, and this effect won't actives if they negate your summon.

Krawler Playstyle

This deck is a Control Deck, focusing on depleting opponents resources. Given that the archetype is related to the "World Legacy" archetype, this deck also good with some that archetype's cards. For Duel Preview, you can watch in on of my video :

Krawler Deck Tips and Combos

Combo #1

Cards needed : World Legacy In Shadow, any 2 Krawler monsters, Wormbait

First activate World Legacy In Shadow and use its effect to Special Summon 1 Krawler monster in face-up Defense Position. Normal Summon another Krawler monster, then activate Worm Bait to special summon 2 Worm Token. Use 2 Krawler monsters to Link Summon X-Krawler Qualiark, then use 2 Worm Tokens to Link Summon X-Krawler Neurogos or X-Krawler Synaphysis.

Combo #2

Cards needed : World Legacy In Shadow, any 3 Krawler monsters, Wormbait

First activate World Legacy In Shadow and use its effect to special summon 1 Krawler monster in face-up Defense Position. Normal summon another Krawler monster, then activate Worm Bait to special summon 2 Worm Token. Use 2 Krawler monsters to Link Summon Subterror Behemoth Fiendess, then use 2 Worm Tokens to Link Summon X-Krawler Neurogos or X-Krawler Synaphysis. Finally use Subterror Behemoth Fiendess effect to Special Summon 3rd Krawler monster from your hand in face-down Defense Position.

Combo #3

Cards needed : World Legacy In Shadow, Block Spider

First activate World Legacy In Shadow and use its effect to special summon Block Spider in face-up Defense Position. This will trigger Block Spider effect to Special Summon another Block Spider from your Deck. This combo good for preventing enemy attack, or to summon more link monster.

Tips #1

Don't Link Summon X-Krawler  if you don't use 2 Krawler monster or if you only have 1 Krawler monster after you do Link Summon, even if you have Worm Bait in your hand. Because X-Krawler 2nd effect won't works unless you have at least 2 Krawler monster with different name in your Graveyard.

Tips #2

Remember that you can special summon any Krawler monster from your hand or Graveyard with Krawler Glial's effect (except Krawler Glial itself of course), including X-Krawler monsters from Graveyard, because they are counted as "Krawler" monsters. But you can't special summon X-Krawler monster with another X-Krawler's and effect, because you can't summon Link Monster in face-down Defense Position.

Tips #3

If your opponent try to destroy your face-down Defense Position Krawler monster (with Raigeki, Dark Hole, Grapha, Masterpeace, etc.), you can use World Legacy Pawns to flip it face-up before your opponent can destroy it. So you can use its 2nd effect to Special Summon 2 Krawler monsters with different name from your Deck in face-down Defense Position.

Key Card #1 World Legacy In Shadow

Absolutely needed. Make more Krawler on the field with bonus Special Summon. Faster access to X-Krawler monster, or just making your field full of face-down Krawler monsters. Mostly used to take down strong monster, and the best part is : this effect is not targeting. So this card is best for getting rid of monster that cannot be targeted by effect like Blue-Eyes Chaos MAX Dragon. So, don't hesitate to attack your opponent's strong monster with your Krawler monster, and send it to Graveyard.

Key Card #2 World Legacy Pawns

Flipping your Krawler monster without being attacked, and you can also use this effect in your opponent's main phase, to interrupt their action. Or you can change Krawler monster to face-down Defense Position and return 1 Krawler monster from Graveyard to your Deck at the same time. So you can use Krawler flip effect for a 2nd time on the next turn.

Key Card #3 X-Krawler Qualiark

Giving access to summon another Extra Deck Monster with its Link Marker. Together with other X-Krawler, let you Special Summon 2 Krawler monster in face-down Defense Position when leaving the Field. Has ability to increase all of your monster ATK and DEF by 300 if you have at least 2 Krawler monster, and preventing your opponent to activate their card in Battle Phase if you have at least 4 Krawler monster. This card is big boss of Krawler.

Weakness

This deck main problem is bad hand. Once you got a bad hand in first turn, you can't do anything to make that better. Also this deck is slow, you'll start with moderate Field, but when you get your 2nd turn, you can easily beat your opponent with combination off Krawler monster effect. Don't forget that this deck has ability to "call their friend" when dies. But this effect only triggered by your opponents action, so the strategy is very depends of your enemy deck. This deck may has problem with banishing card effect, so I recommended to only use only Krawler monster (not Link Monsters) until you get rid card that make card banished.

Another Card Recommendation

Since this deck run Verdant Sanctuary, you can bring Insect Tuner Monster like Infernity Beetle because you can easily search them with Verdant Sanctuary. For access to high level Synchro monster you can use Multiplication of Ants instead of Worm Bait for higher level token. If you want to add more defense, you can bring Mirror-Force-family trap, like Storming Mirror Force or Drowning Mirror Force. Book of Eclipse also a good card for this deck.
